GX85/100-300/100-400 IBIS Testing

I was able to recently try out the new GX85. As a bonus, much of the Panasonic lens lineup was also available and I was able to change lenses and use the camera as I saw fit, but could not write images to an SD card. Also - this was taking place in an indoor studio with lower lighting levels.

First impressions about the GX85: Solid build, and seems very well built. Not "plasticky" feeling or anything like that. For those who already shoot with Pany bodies now, you can still expect their great ergonomics, both on the menus and physical button layout - you won't be disappointed. Grip was comfortable to hold and button placement is excellent IMO. The popup flash can be tilted back to bounce. In manual mode, auto ISO is present. The mechanical shutter is very quiet. The EVF is also very nice, but I guess it depends on what you are comparing it to. It is not on the level of the GH4 or GX8's viewfinders, but it is a big step up from the GM5 (which I am using currently). The GX85 viewfinder provides a large and bright image, and lag seems minimal, as doing the un-scientific hand waving in front of the camera test; comparing the EVF view against my other eye looking live.

For me, the game changer was when I replaced the 12-32 kit with the 100-400 and tried some sample shots. At full zoom (800mm equivalent focal length), I tried focusing on some text, from a sign on a far wall. I was holding the camera out in front of me to show some other people also looking at the rear LCD, so not bracing the camera properly as typically done while using the EVF. While half-pressing the shutter and viewing the LCD, the image was rock solid. The shutter speed was 1/15 sec!

For fun, I swapped the 100-400 to the 100-300 and tried the same test; zooming all the way out and focusing on the same sign. At 600mm equivalent, I think the camera selected 1/8 sec shutter speed but can't remember exactly, but same effect on the rear LCD while in the half press: the image was rock steady. Maybe this body can breathe some new life in the 100-300! I see now why so many of you Oly users are so impressed with the 5 axis IBIS! On the GX85, it is a game changer for Panasonic!

As soon as this is available (which to my understanding is end of May), I am getting one for sure. They had the black and black/silver models available but I am leaning towards the black/silver.

I am still hoping that Pany eventually releases a new GM body, as I absolutely love my GM5, but I don't think I can pass up on this new GX. Also - I hope they keep the GM line alive.

- 매우조용한 기계셔터(부피를 줄이고 셔터쇼크를 1/10으로 감소시킨 신개발 1/4000 셔터)
- 어떤 EVF와 비교하느냐에 따라 다르겠지만, 훌륭한 EVF. GH4나 GX8 수준은 아니지만 GM5에서 한단계 진보(이 양반 GX7은 못써본 모양입니다.)
- 12-32대신에 100-400을 마운트하고 최대망원에서 반셔터를 누르는 순간 프레임이 딱 정지되었음. 셔터속도는 1/15
- 재미삼아 100-400대신에 100-300을 마운트 하고 반셔터를 눌렀는데, 프레임이 안정적로 고정되었다. 600mm 망원에 셔속은 정확히 기억하진 못하지만 1/8초
  아마도 이 바디는 100-300에 새생명을 불어 넣을 수 있을 것 같다. 나는 GX85로 인해 왜 많은 올림푸스 유저들이 5축떨방에 감동받는지 알게됐다.
  Gx85는 파나소닉의 게임 체인저다.

100-300은 현재까지 Dual  I.S.가 지원되지 않고 있는 렌즈중에 하나입니다. Mega OIS에 120fps 드라이브만 지원되는 렌즈라 사실 정확히 믿기는 어렵기도 하고, 그다지 과학적인 테스트도 아니지만, 밑에 여러 댓글들이 달려 있고, 작성자가 리플도 잘 달고 있는걸로 보아 내장 떨방은 꽤나 훌륭한 수준인거 같습니다.
그리고 플라스틱 바디임에도 여기 말고 다른곳에서도 만듬새가 좋다는 평이 많이 올라오네요...

얼른 실물을 구경해 봤으면 좋겠습니다.
